Studying Abroad: My Transformative Experience in Canada and the USA

Studying abroad in Toronto and New York City transformed my perspective, strengthened my business acumen, and immersed me in dynamic global environments, shaping both my academic and personal growth.

Studying abroad is one of the most enriching experiences a student can have. It challenges you, opens your mind, and immerses you in different cultures. Between 2021 and 2022, I embarked on an incredible journey that took me from Toronto, Canada, to the heart of New York City, USA. Looking back, these experiences shaped not only my academic journey but also my personal growth in ways I could have never imagined.

Why I Chose to Study Abroad

From the beginning, my goal was to gain international exposure, improve my language skills, and immerse myself in two of the world's most dynamic business environments. To make the transition smoother, I decided to opt for co-living arrangements with students from my home school who were also heading to the same destinations. This not only helped with the cultural adjustment but also provided a strong support system along the way.

Toronto: My First International Step

My journey began in Canada, where I studied at the International Language Academy of Canada (ILAC) in Toronto. ILAC is a renowned institution that attracts students from all over the world, and it was the perfect place for me to enhance my business knowledge while improving my English fluency. The program was intense, interactive, and incredibly rewarding.

While in Toronto, I made sure to explore everything the city and its surroundings had to offer. I visited Niagara Falls, an awe-inspiring natural wonder, and explored North Toronto, East Toronto, and Coburg, as well as various iconic landmarks. Whether it was walking along the Harbourfront, discovering the Distillery District, or enjoying a Raptors game, Toronto quickly became a city I deeply appreciated and still miss to this day.

New York City: The Heart of Business and Finance

After my enriching experience in Toronto, I took my journey to the next level by moving to New York City, where I studied at the Business, Finance and Management School of New York (BFMSNY). This was an unparalleled opportunity to learn from industry experts, engage with business professionals, and witness the financial heartbeat of the world firsthand.

I lived in a co-living space on 47th and 3rd in Manhattan, right in the middle of everything. NYC was a whole different world—fast-paced, ambitious, and full of opportunities. I spent my time visiting Wall Street, the Financial District, and the top landmarks like Times Square, Central Park, and the Empire State Building. I also delved into lesser-known gems, exploring cultural hotspots and hidden speakeasies, truly getting to know the city's heartbeat.

During my studies at BFMSNY, I had the privilege of learning from outstanding professionals, including Michael Harold (LinkedIn), Philippe Andres (LinkedIn), Andy Szabo (LinkedIn), and Peter P. Costa (LinkedIn). These mentors provided invaluable insights into business, finance, and management, greatly influencing my professional outlook.

A Life-Changing Experience

Studying abroad taught me resilience, adaptability, and the value of international connections. It gave me confidence in navigating global environments and an appreciation for diverse perspectives. My time in Toronto and New York Citywas more than just about studying—it was about experiencing life in two of the most incredible cities in the world.

If you're considering studying abroad, I highly recommend taking the leap. It will change you in ways you never expected and leave you with experiences and friendships that last a lifetime.
